Arreton 172-3 beat Freshwater 98 all out by 74 runs

Ryde CC Youth suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of Newport Ale House. The game was decided by a brilliant catch by Owain Hooper to dismiss Jordan Galsworthy off the final ball of the innings with Youth requiring three runs for victory. Chasing 123 for victory, Youth had paced their innings well and needed just 8 runs off the last over with two wickets in hand. Two “dot” balls and a run-out added to the pressure and Hooper’s catch produced a fitting finale to a memorable match.

Second-place Young Cavaliers returned to winning ways with an easy victory against Wootton. Batting first, they amassed 157-1, Andy Loudon scoring 25 not out and Harry Bradley 25 not out. Wootton’s reply started badly with the loss of two wickets in the first two overs and they were unable to increase the tempo, despite an intelligent innings of 34 not out form Ollie Stubbings.

A hard-hitting innings of 67 not out from Gary Cooper allowed Arreton to post 172-3 against Freshwater. Cooper then captured 2 wickets as Freshwater struggled to 98 all out in reply.

In the morning’s remaining Bembridge defeated Binstead Royals by 3 wickets and stay third in the League. Geoff Smith revived a flagging Royals’ innings with 45 not out, but the Royals were still only to set their opponents a target of 98. Bembridge lost a couple of early wickets, but Lee Thompson (26 not out) duly saw his side home.
