Week 7 reports from the Sandrock Service Isle of Wight Indoor Cricket League

The Ale House 90-2 beat Arreton 88 all out by 2 wickets

Freshwater 158-3 beat Binstead Royals 87-3 by 71 runs

Bembridge 126-4 beat Young Cavaliers 125-4 by 2 wickets

Ryde CC Youth 140-4 beat Wootton 107-5 by 33 runs

Ryde CC Youth continued their drive towards the league title with an emphatic win over in-form Wootton. Sam Rockley (32*) and Sam Starkins (47*) were the main contributors in the Youth’s total of 140-4, and Rockley capped a fine all-round performance by taking 3 Wootton wickets. Cyrus Dean batted defiantly for 53*, but Wootton fell well short of their target.

In a match of fluctuating fortunes, Bembridge defeated second-place Young Cavaliers by 2 wickets. Batting first, the Cavaliers were given a solid platform by Andy Loudon and Harry Bradley, before the intervention of Kieth Kirk (3-35) arrested their progress, and they had to settle for 125-4. Bembridge were indebted to a positive partnership between Dan Macarthur (37*) and Kieran Thompson (29*) when they batted and the winning runs were scored off the final ball of their innings.

Freshwater ended their poor run with a 71 run win against Binstead Royals. Graham Gosden’s innings of 41 not out was the lynchpin of their innings and Jason Swain and Tom Henderson also made scores in excess of 25. The Royals’ reply got off to the worst possible start with the loss of Joe Smith to the first ball of the innings, and faced with a formidable target of 154, they meandered to 81-3.

Owain Hooper was the match-winner for Newport Ale House in their encounter with Arreton. He first claimed 3 wickets as Arreton were bowled out for 88, and led his team to a comfortable 4 wicket victory with a composed innings of 26 not out.

Ryde CC Youth head the league table with 14 points, followed by Young Cavaliers and Bembridge on 10 points each.
